Suswe su600a setup guide

How to set up the SUSWE SU600A-2R2G1-B drive for keypad control: check the wiring, return the drive to factory settings, enter the motor details, and do a safe first run.

Safety first. All power wiring must be done by a licensed electrician. Before touching any terminal: isolate the supply, wait until the drive's charge lamp and display are fully out and the discharge time in the manual has passed, then prove dead. Never connect mains to the output terminals U, V, W. The keypad STOP is a software stop. It is not isolation or a safety-rated emergency stop.

1. Before power-up

2. Keypad basics

The keypad has six keys — PRG ENT ▲ ▼ RUN STOP/RST — plus the speed knob. There is no separate shift key: when you're editing a value, RUN does that job.

Key What it does
PRG Steps round three screens: run display → F parameters (starts at F0.00, last digit flashing) → d monitor values (read only) → back to the run display. While viewing or editing a value, PRG backs out without saving.
▲ ▼ In the parameter list, step to the next or previous code. Hold to scroll; it rolls on into the next group (F0 → F1 → F2 …). While editing, they change the flashing digit (▼ stops at 0).
ENT On a code, shows its value. After editing, saves the value and moves straight on to the next code.
RUN While editing a value, moves the flashing digit. From the right-hand digit the first press jumps to the far left, then each press steps one place right. On the run display it starts the motor.
STOP/RST Stops the motor. Also clears a fault (ALM light).
Knob Sets the speed when F0.03 = 0 (factory setting).

To change a setting

  1. Press STOP so the drive is stopped.
  2. Press PRG once. The display shows F0.00.
  3. Press or hold ▲ / ▼ until the code you want shows, e.g. F8.05.
  4. Press ENT to show the value. The right-hand digit flashes.
  5. Use ▲ / ▼ to change the flashing digit; the whole number counts up or down on that digit. To change a different digit, press RUN to move the flash there. Example, 7.5 → 10.0: press RUN until the tens digit flashes, ▲ once, then fix the other digits.
  6. Press ENT to save. The display moves on to the next code. (Pressing PRG instead leaves the value unchanged.)
  7. When you're finished, press PRG twice to get back to the run display. Re-open each changed code to check it saved.

Each setting only goes as high or as low as its allowed range — for example, F0.02 stops at 2. Some are also capped by another setting: the upper limit F0.05 can't go above the maximum frequency F0.04, so raise F0.04 first if you need more.

3. Return to factory defaults

Parameter Name Set to Notes
F8.05 Parameter initialisation 1 1 = restore all user parameters to factory settings for this model. The value returns to 0 automatically when finished. (2 = clear the fault history only.)

If a parameter won't change, check that F0.23 (user password) is 0. Some parameters can only be changed while the drive is stopped.

4. Motor and basic settings

Enter F4.00 first: changing the rated power reloads the drive's internal motor model values (F4.17–F4.20) for that size. Then enter the rest from the nameplate. Because ENT saves and moves on to the next code, you can enter F4.00 → F4.05 in one go.

Parameter Name Factory Set to
Motor (from nameplate — STAR values)
F4.00 Motor rated power (kW) per model Nameplate kW (max 2.2)
F4.01 Motor rated voltage (V) 380 Nameplate star voltage, e.g. 400
F4.02 Motor rated current (A) per model Nameplate star current (≤ 5.8 A)
F4.03 Motor rated frequency (Hz) 50.0 50.0
F4.04 Motor rated speed (rpm) per model Nameplate rpm, e.g. 1420
F4.05 Motor no-load current (A) per model Leave as filled in, unless known
Control source — keypad only
F0.01 Motor control mode 0 0 = V/F (leave)
F0.02 Run command source 0 0 = panel RUN/STOP
F0.03 Frequency (speed) source 0 0 = panel potentiometer (speed knob)
Speed limits and ramps
F0.04 Maximum output frequency 50.0 Hz 50.0 Hz (don't exceed the motor or machine rating)
F0.05 Upper limit frequency 50.0 Hz 50.0 Hz
F0.06 Lower limit frequency 0.0 Hz 0.0 Hz
F0.10 Acceleration time (s) per model Start at 5–10 s
F0.11 Deceleration time (s) per model Start at 10 s. Lengthen if it trips on overvoltage when stopping
Direction, stop and restart
F0.12 Run direction 0 0 = forward (see section 5)
F1.04 Stop method 0 0 = ramp to stop
F1.00 Start mode / power-loss restart 00 00 = no automatic restart after power loss
F4.08 Auto fault reset count 0 0 = off (manual reset only)

Motor auto-tune (F4.16 = 1, static self-learning) is only needed if you move to vector control (F0.01 = 2 or 3). Leave F4.16 = 0 for V/F.

5. If there's a switch or contactor between the drive and the motor

Important. The SU-600 manual says the motor should only be switched while the drive is not producing output. Opening or reversing a contactor or switch between the drive and the motor while it's running can trip the drive on overcurrent and can damage its output transistors. Reversing a spinning motor also slams the load.
Option What it means When
A. Keep the switch — operating rule Press STOP, wait until the motor has fully stopped, change direction, then press RUN. Fit a label at the switch. Don't touch the switch with the drive running. Fine for first commissioning
B. Keep the switch — interlock it Use a spare contact on the switch (or its centre-off position) to stop the drive whenever the switch is moved, so it can never be changed under load. Needs a small control-wiring change. If the switch must stay long-term
C. Let the drive do the reversing (recommended) Remove the switch from the motor circuit and wire U/V/W straight to the motor. Reverse with the drive instead: either F0.12 on the keypad, or forward/reverse selectors wired to the drive's X inputs (input functions 3 = FWD, 4 = REV, run source F0.02 = 1). The drive then ramps down and back up safely, and F1.36 can add a pause at zero speed. Changes from front-panel to terminal control

Option A is fine for first commissioning (leave F0.12 = 0). Contact us for interlock wiring (B) or terminal forward/reverse settings (C).

6. First run test

Need a hand? Call Southern Technology on 03 389 9258 or email thomas@southerntech.co.nz. Have the drive's display reading and any fault code ready.

These settings are taken from the SU-600 operating manual supplied with the drive. Confirm the drive model and parameter descriptions match before programming. This guide covers functional setup only. It is not an electrical compliance test or a machinery safety validation.
